Introduction - Agents and what they do

Agents are key partners of English UK and its member
language centres.

Their main role is to give advice and information to help students choose which language centre and course is right for them. They can tell students about the different centres and courses, what different parts of the UK are like to live in, what the costs are likely to be, and can arrange a course, accommodation and travel in liaison with the chosen language centre.

Some agents charge a fee for this advice, but most receive commission from the language centre on the course booking so they can provide their advice free to students.

Though you can find a lot of information on the internet, there is no substitute for having a talk with someone who knows the UK and different language centres and can help you make a good choice. It is well worth talking to a local agent at an early stage in your planning.

In many countries there are agent associations which help to ensure professional practice. The agent associations are listed by country -
