Overseas visitors spend a record £1.54 billion in November 2014

The Office for National Statistics has released the latest figures for inbound tourism to the UK showing a rise in spending across the UK by overseas visitors.

Over £20 billion was spent by overseas visitors in the first 11 months of 2014. In this time there were 32.4 million visits to the UK and in November a record £1.54 billion was spent by overseas visitors, 7% more than the previous record set in 2013.

Highlights include:

  • Scotland sees 12% increase visitor spend, from the same period last year, setting a new record of £846 million
  • London sets a new record reaching almost 5 million during the three months to September.
  • Wales sees 7% growth in the number of visits in the third quarter 2014
