Getting ideas and guidance on helping students with additional needs in English language centres can be difficult.

English UK's Inclusive Classrooms is designed to give teachers and managers expert guidance on how to include all students into classroom and ELT centre activities, with specialist sessions on identifying learning needs, including all learners in lessons, and supporting people with visual and physical impairments.

Dr Anne Margaret Smith and Varinder Unlu, both key members of IATEFL's Inclusive Practices and Special Educational Needs Special Interest Group (IP&SEN SIG), will give teachers more confidence in creating an inclusive ELT classroom.

Anne Margaret, a specialist tutor and assessor for 20 years and founder of ELT well, will talk about identifying specific learning difficulties in English language learners, empowering participants to take the initiative in supporting students.

Varinder, academic manager at Glion Institute of Higher Education, will explore how to include all learners in the language learning classroom. Varinder is a coordinator of the Inclusive Practices & Special Educational Needs Special Interest Group and has over two decades' experience in ELT as a teacher, teacher trainer and academic manager.

Dan Williams, founder of Visualise Training and Consultancy, will cover supporting students with visual impairments. Dan – who is passionate about disability rights and making mainstream services accessible to all, enabling people with disabilities to be as independent as possible – is himself registered blind, and is a qualified rehabilitation assistant for people with a visual impairment.

Sarah Lindeman, an access advisor at the Centre for Accessible Environments, will share her expertise on workplace assessments, reasonable adjustments and adaptations. Her background in occupational therapy gives her a strong understanding of a wide range of impairments and ways to facilitate accessible and inclusive environments, and she has delivered training to the Royal Institute of British Architects.

The day will end will a panel discussion to answer questions.

The event is on Wednesday 22 November, 10:30 to 17:00, at the David Game College in London.

Places for English UK members are £95 and includes lunch.
