English UK Central
English UK Central was originally established in 1992 as the Heart of England Language Schools Association (HELSA) – part of the local tourist board and the British Tourist Authority. The group became independent in 1998, establishing a reputation for keen organisation and a strong brand. In 2009, the group linked up with English UK to streamline and consolidate operations between both organisations.
The purpose of the group is unashamedly commercial – to make sure that as many people as possible know about the beauty and variety of the region, the centre of which is a mere two hours from London. To this end the group organises several in-bound familiarisation (or ‘fam’) trips each year, including one after StudyWorld.
English UK Central members meet approximately 5 times a year at one of the member centres. Meetings are lively and fun, ensuring an opportunity for schools to swap best-practice and marketing information, as well as develop a strategy for the group as a whole.
In addition, the group acts as a conduit for communications with English UK. Representatives of English UK regularly attend our regional group meetings to brief members on national and international issues. This provides an excellent opportunity for individual member schools to feed comments directly to the top of the tree!
English UK Central is a subscription based organisation and covers the counties of Shropshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire (southern two-thirds), Nottinghamshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Gloucestershire (north of the M4 motorway)
