English UK South West was formed from a long-standing regional association and now covers Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire as well as Bath and Bristol.
Since its formation in 2009 membership has grown to more than 20, which include privately owned language centres, international schools and an FE college. A wide range of specialist courses are on offer, including those for executives and professionals, juniors, and immersion learning in the teacher's home.
English UK's promotional activities include its website, a brochure, activities supported by UK Trade and Industry, conferences and postcards. The group also organises an annual inward mission, and can offer joint tendering for large groups though a central booking point.
It organises an Annual General Meeting and conference, including lectures and workshops on management, marketing, teaching and learning for both academic and administrative staff of member centre. The group also organises professional training days of common interest to members
The organising committee meets regularly around four times a year. It also lobbies regional and national government and non-government organisations on behalf of its membership.
Why study in the English UK South West region? Dean Jones says: "This is a perfect place to study the English language. It includes stunning coastlines and beautiful countryside as well as reminders of ancient history everywhere. You can go fossil-hunting on the Jurassic coast, enjoy galleries, theatres, music festivals and the Eden project, or just have a great time in one of our many holiday resorts. Whatever you choose and wherever in the South West you choose to study, you're sure to have a great time."
