The ELPG (English Language Promotion Group) came into being in the summer of 2008. It was formerly known as the SPG (Strategic Promotions Group), and was set up in August 2005 to work towards a more co-ordinated approach to the promotion of the English language among the members of the group - the British Council, English UK, UK Trade & Investment and VisitBritain.
When the group first met, they decided to put their vision for 'joined up promotion' to the test and jointly organised a fair in Cancun in March 2007 aimed at agents in the Latin American region. Following on from the success of this model, the Hong Kong Fair for the Asia Pacific region was held in February 2008 and two further fairs were held in 2009 - in the UAE in April and in Brazil in October.
These fairs, now called the English UK Fairs, have become a regular and much anticipated highlight of our marketing calendar.

The English Language Promotions Group also share information and work together in a number of other important areas, for example, the ELT Marketing Conference, British Council agent training schemes, the promotion of the accreditation scheme and opportunities for promotion of specific course types.
