Disclosure and barring service

Disclosure and Barring Service

The system of checks on people working with under-18s and vulnerable adults changed on 1 December 2012. Previously named the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), it is now run by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

It is recommended best practice under the Accreditation UK scheme for language centres in the UK to obtain consent from homestay providers and prospective employees who have unsupervised access to under-18s to undertake DBS checks.

English UK used to be a registered body for CRB/DBS checks, but no longer runs this service. For data protection reasons, all data held regarding CRB applications processed by English UK has now been destroyed.

There are many online organisations who can process DBS checks. For more information on DBS checks please contact the Membership team or on 020 7608 7960.
