English UK is an umbrella body for the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) service. The CRB helps to protect children and vulnerable adults by providing a first-class service to support organisations recruiting people into positions of trust.

It is recommended best practice under the Accreditation UK scheme for language operations in the UK to obtain consent from homestay providers and prospective employees who have unsupervised access to children under the age of 16 to undertake CRB checks. The number of English UK member centres utilising this service continues to grow and English UK processed over 1500 CRB applications in 2010.

By using the English UK Umbrella Body service, member centres can avoid having to pay a £300 registration fee and all of the costs and inconvenience associated with the secure handling and storage of such sensitive information. The present costs of the service are as follows:

  • Standard CRB check:  £26 + admin charge (£5 + VAT)
  • Enhanced CRB check: £44 + admin charge (£5 + VAT)

Please note that for any positions that involve work with under 18s, an enhanced CRB check is necessary.

For more information about CRB checks please contact Laura Underwood, Customer Services Officer, at info@englishuk.com.

Application forms

In 2010 the CRB launched a new application form. The last date that the old white CRB form was accepted was 20 July 2010.

If you would like to order some of the new forms, please contact Laura (info@englishuk.com) specifying how many forms you would like.

You can access a guide to the new form, on the CRB website.
