English UK North was the association's first regional group, formed from a long-standing association of language centres. It represents English language centres in Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Newcastle, Yorkshire, the Lake District and Lancashire.
The group has more than 30 members, including five universities, six FE colleges and private language schools.
English UK North's promotional activities include a brochure and a members list, which can be requested via the group's website here.
The group also organises regular Fam trips, including an annual one for agents from around the world, and regular post-StudyWorld trips. In addition, the group builds links with agents from particular markets by organising a one-day event and mini-workshop in a market followed by a fam trip for agents to the North of England. These events have been held all over Europe and in more distant markets, including Russia and Taiwan.
English UK North members meet twice a year for a Spring Conference and Autumn AGM/mini conference. In addition, a steering committee meets two or three times a year and an annual Academic Conference attracts more than 100 local teachers. There are lots of opportunities for networking at these events.
Why study in the English UK North region? Richard Day says: "The North of England is famous for its hospitality and students receive a genuine and warm welcome. There are also few language centres in each destination so students experience a more "English" environment. The North has some wonderful places and a rich heritage – something for everyone!"
