About English UK

What is English UK?

We are the national association of accredited English language centres.

If you're looking for a high-quality English language course in the UK, we can help you find one that suits you and your needs. Our course finder database holds the details of around 470 English language course providers, including universities, private language schools, educational trusts, charities and language centres in colleges.

Most importantly, every one of our language providers is accredited by the British Council under the Accreditation UK scheme, which means you can always be sure of high standards of teaching, management, facilities and welfare provision if you sign up with them.

Representing you

We work with the British Council to manage Accreditation UK, the scheme which monitors and improves the standards of English language providers in the UK on behalf of students all over the world.

We're involved in other activities, including lobbying the UK and overseas governments, running training events for staff working in English language centres and attending education exhibitions worldwide to meet students and their parents. We also operate an independent complaints procedure in case students experience problems with an accredited centre.

As a charity, our key aim is to advance the education of international students in the English language.

Working with the industry

English UK was formed in 2004 from the Association of Recognised English Language Services (ARELS) and the British Association of State English Language Teaching (BASELT). Since then, English UK has been established as the voice of the UK's English language teaching sector, working with a wide range of partners and stakeholders worldwide.
