Zhou Yiyong (David), 35, a director of TV commercials from Beijing, studied for four weeks at the Frances King School of English in London after winning a Let Your English Grow scholarship.
Why did you choose to come to the UK?
Because English is spoken in UK, I got a scholarship from a language school in UK. And the third reason - I love UK!
Did you enjoy your time in the UK?
Yes, I really did!
So many things were great! You have known I am a director. I love art and I spent plenty of happy time in the great museums - that's splendid!
The colour of English sky, the sound of church bells in dusk of Cambrige, antiques in Portobello Road's weekend market, glittering and translucent night-buses at Regent Street, a fresh breakfast in Holland Park's fresh morning, a party with dance music and wine named "late in Tate" in Tate Britain...
I love all of those.
Did anything surprise you?
Surprise me? I think "excite" is the fitter word. I am pleased to tell you what was the most exciting thing I had in UK. It was a visit to Marion Park in Charlton which was the main location of the great film 'Blowup'. As a super fan of this film and the director Michelangelo Antonioni, I spent a whole excited day there. It was very important for me to put myself in the real place of a virtual reality which I had been extremly familiar with.
What are you doing now? Could you have done it without your English?
Working and learning - I use English every day.
Would you recommend learning English in the UK to your friends?
Yes, I would - in fact I have done.
