What is the English UK Campus? |
|
|
The English UK Campus can be thought of as an interactive workbook, designed to supplement classroom teaching - it can be used anywhere that Internet access is available. The Campus can be used to supplement any course book or course material, and can even be used in itself as the basis of a complete course, with appropriate teacher guidance and input. Teachers can send messages to students; bookmark exercises for them and closely monitor their progress through an automatic mark book.
It contains a flexible and fully searchable database of over 3,500 interactive activities, tests, learning games and grammar reference units, plus the Macmillan English Dictionary Online for every student. This includes a substantial database of Business English and EAP materials. The content, which is regularly updated, is suitable for students at all language levels and has been developed by Macmillan's leading team of ELT authors.
The database includes significant test preparation and practice materials, including a large proportion devoted to IELTS and the Cambridge suite. This includes practice papers as well as sample essay answers with examiner feedback.
The English UK Campus also contains a sophisticated course management system that enables teachers to blend the resources contained within the Macmillan English Campus database with any of their existing print-based course or supplementary materials. This allows institutions to combine innovative online material with existing classroom-based activities to create true blended learning programmes, suitable for a wide range of learners.

What is the difference between the English UK Campus and the Macmillan English Campus? |
|
|
The English UK Campus has been specially branded for English UK members to use. Macmillan English Campus normally requires centres to purchase a minimum of 250 'seats' or user IDs which is clearly beyond the means of most smaller and medium-sized language teaching operations. The English UK Campus is specially branded using the English UK logo and is restricted for the exclusive use of English UK members. The site and each member will have secure access that only they and the Campus Super Administrator at English UK will share. The academic materials and management systems are the latest version of the Campus

Can I receive training on how to use the English UK Campus? |
|
|
Yes, full and comprehensive training is available from the team at Macmillan English Campus including face-to-face and remote training as well as regular monthly top up 'MEC Clinics' and access to a teachers' blog. The training is aimed at administrators, teachers and Directors of Studies who will be using the Campus, and is intended to help them make the most of this invaluable pedagogic tool.
Basic remote training is divided as follows:
MEC Basics: This online training is aimed at any teachers who want to understand how to use the EUK English Campus resources and tools with their students. It includes: site navigation, search tools, resources, courses, communication tools, teacher support materials and the MEC blog. It also includes an overview of the pre-built courses that are available on the site, as well as a tour of teacher support materials and the teacher's view of the mark book. There is a question and answers session at the end of the training.
Administration: This online training is aimed at teachers and school administrators who will be responsible for managing user IDs, classes and courses on the EUK Campus. Training includes a focus on user management, class management, course management, course building, and ideas for using MEC in your school. It also includes a demonstration on how to build courses on Campus and some examples of how Campus can be implemented in school. There is a question and answers session at the end of the training.
Remote training is run via a conference call and an online meeting, allowing the trainer to screen share and present the different areas of Campus to the participants.
To join the online training, participants will need a computer with an Internet connection and a separate phone line. If participants are calling from the same school, they are welcome to share a computer and use speaker phone to listen to the trainer, rather than using separate machines and phone lines. The link to the online meeting and the free phone number for the conference call will be sent out to participants the day before the training.
Training sessions will be advertised and promoted through English UK and last approximately 90 minutes. Please download the English UK Campus Initial Training Information Sheet for more details.
