Description of centre

Short courses at BEC for young people and adults
We believe that one of the primary functions of a short stay in the UK for the typical short course student is to raise their confidence in using the language and, as a result, their motivation to learn more of the language when they return to their own schools. In the short course environment we believe that this aim is best achieved by concentrating to some extent on activating what they already know and, in the process, improving their speaking and listening skills, working on their pronunciation and adding to their active vocabularies.
Social programme – an opportunity for further language practice
We try to encourage students to use English as much as possible outside of the classroom. If you are not a particularly sporty person, we can offer a range of activities to keep you busy, including drama workshop, street dance, karaoke, cultural quiz, sports, art class, coastal walk, games night and Broadstairs quiz. As all our courses are bespoke, programmes are agreed with each group before arrival. There is something to do every afternoon and evening during the week. Our half-day and full-day trips are a highlight of each stay. Guided walks by our staff and student worksheets help to maximise language practice in this area of the programme.
Homestay accommodation
Having a good relationship with our homestay providers means that they always deliver what we expect for our guests: a warm welcome, clean and comfortable accommodation, varied and tasty meals, and an interest in what the students are doing. The majority of hosts are within walking distance and we have a private shuttle service for those on the outskirts.
The BEC residence: comfortable, convenient and safe
Open all year round, our on-site student residence provides comfortable and spacious accommodation for students (dormitories) and group leaders (individual en-suite). Facilities include a large common area with pool tables, table tennis, Internet Café, shop and TV lounge. Security is a priority: coded door entry, staff 24/7, CCTV on all floors and alarm activated at night. Caterers provide a high standard of tasty and healthy meals. The train station is next to the school, making our location very convenient for trips.
