Information for host families
Homestay accommodation is a vital element of a student's
studies.
It is often the area which is of most concern to students before they
arrive and which can provide the most lasting memories of their time
in the UK.
The Accreditation UK Scheme includes criteria on homestay accommodation although inspections will only be carried out on a small sample of a centre's accommodation provision. However, the centre should inspect all its accommodation at least every two years.
Among the stipulations of the accreditation scheme are that the hosts treat the student as a full member of the household, eating together and sharing the common living areas. The student's privacy should be ensured and no more than three adult or four junior students should be accommodated in homestay accommodation at any one time. Students with the same mother tongue should not be lodged in the same home.
Stipulations for accommodating junior students are necessarily more rigorous to ensure their safety and security but for all students, a relaxed and welcoming environment plays a crucial role in ensuring that their time in this country is happy and that they return home with a positive impression of the UK.

lifelong learning,
British education
is a first class
ticket for life.”
