English UK training days - November 2006

Bookings are currently taken for the following courses:

Technology training days:

The Net Teacher

Friday, 17th; 10.00 - 13.00; Buckingham Gate

This half-day workshop looks at lesson planning and teaching using the Internet with f2f (face-to-face) classes. We examine the skillset needed to plan, produce and implement Internet-based classes - taking in search skills, website evaluation, and lesson planning. Practical ideas for using the Internet in class are offered.

The Wired Teacher. Skills for the online Teacher

Friday, 17th; 14.00 - 17.00; Buckingham Gate

In this workshop we look at online teaching and learning - that is, teaching via a learning platform, or VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). We examine the skills that the online teacher needs, and the differences between f2f (face-to-face) and online teaching. The workshop is aimed at teachers and trainers who either currently work in online teaching, or may move into this growing field in the future.

The Internet and Writing Projects

Monday, 20th; 10.00 -13.00; Buckingham Gate

This workshop looks at a range of extended writing projects online, and how to implement them with classes. We will look at examples of interactive fiction and non-linear narratives online, through to student personal homepages and email exchanges. This is a highly practical session in which participants will be given plenty of ideas to use with their own classes.

Introduction to VLEs

Monday, 20th; 14.00 -17.00; Buckingham Gate

This workshop focuses on online teaching and learning. We look at online learning platforms, (or ‘Virtual Learning Environments’ - VLEs) and specifically at what is fast becoming one of the most popular - Moodle. How and why Moodle may be used with learners is examined, and we also consider online task design - how can we make activities engaging and motivating for online learners? How can we ensure collaboration in online tasks? The focus of the workshop is primarily on using Moodle for online teacher training, but we will also consider how Moodle can be used to support language learning.
