Materials Development for Teachers
Friday, 16th; Buckingham Gate
Trainer: Brian Tomlinson

This workshop aims to help ELT teachers to develop principled and relevant materials quickly and effectively. It will be based on an approach which he has used in many countries to help teachers both to write national and institutional coursebooks and to write supplementary materials for specific classes. This approach involves making use of a flexible text-based framework designed to apply research on language acquisition to the practicalities of classroom learning in ways which engage and motivate learners of English as a second or foreign language.

Building a Strong Brand
Thursday, 22nd; Buckingham Gate
Trainer: Martin Bojam

In the global competition to attract students, international education marketers, including language providers, are becoming increasingly aware of the need to clearly identify, build and effectively manage their brands.  Whilst the concept of branding is so familiar within other sectors, it is not something that has been traditionally applied to the education sector. However, the principles that drive product branding can be applied to building and managing services such as education brands. In this session, Martin Bojam presents an overview of what a brand is; why building and maintaining a strong brand is so important and a basic framework for doing so.
