The Value of Research in English Language Teaching: Managers’ Views

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

English language teachers are often encouraged to read and do research
in the belief that this enhances both their own professional development
and the quality of their teaching. Simon Borg from the University of
Leeds is launching a study of the views that academic managers in ELT
have about the value of research for teachers.

All managers - Directors of Studies, Heads of Department, Team Leaders, Coordinators, Subject
Leaders - in recognized ELT centres in the UK are being invited to
contribute their opinions through a short (five-minute) questionnaire
(interviews are also planned).

The questionnaire will be sent by post to all academic managers in the
next few days; it can also be completed electronically, on-line at

www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=582943258343

or by e-mail attachment
downloadable from
www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~edusbo/Survey.doc

All responses will of course be treated confidentially and a summary of
the results will be sent to all those who participate.
