English UK member closures update

The Covid-19 crisis has had a major impact on the UK's English language teaching industry and sadly some of our members have closed their language centres permanently this year.

Below is a list of the English UK member centres that have permanently ceased trading since 1 March 2020:

Bloomsbury International
Caledonian Language School, Edinburgh
CES Harrogate
Global School of English
Globe English
Gloucester College (ELT department has closed)
International House Aberdeen
Kings College St Michaels
MLS International College
Oxford House College Oxford
St Albans School of English
The English Studio
The London School of English Canterbury
The Language Gallery, Manchester
Totnes European School

Tompkins Education Group (TEG), who operated English language schools in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Portsmouth and Southampton, announced they would cease trading in August. They have since been acquired by a new owner and will be re-opening "in the near future". See their website for more details.

New member: Glenalmond College Language School

We are delighted to welcome one new member, Glenalmond College Language School, who joined us in July. They run residential English language summer camps in Perthshire, Scotland for students aged eight to 17.
At English UK we continue to provide business advice and webinars to help our member navigate this unprecedented crisis for our industry. We are lobbying the Government for sector-specific support for UK ELT.
