Tony works as a consultant to English UK on its public affairs strategy since stepping down as Chief Executive in May 2014. As chief executive of ARELS, one of English UK's two predecessor bodies, he guided the creation of English UK in 2004 to represent both private and state language centres.
Tony previously worked in communications, marketing, PR and lobbying, becoming Assistant Chief Executive of the Schools Curriculum and Assessment Authority (later the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) where he worked on all three of the Dearing Reviews into the National Curriculum, Post-16 Qualifications and Higher Education, which led to the proposal to introduce student fees. He also helped to save real British beer, as a former director and national chairman of the Campaign for Real Ale.
