Student profile: Nagisa Okada

Nagisa Okada is 25 and from Japan. She has been studying at English UK member Live Language in Glasgow since October 2008, and hopes to work in the travel business in the future.

She’s a very popular student at her school, partly because she can create fantastic henna tattooes to her own design for classmates.

Why did you choose to come to the UK?

Because I have some friends here, and I like the accent. I really don't like the American accent!

What made you choose the language school and town?

I had heard that Scotland was friendly – and it is – and because Live Language courses could start at any time of the year.

Are you enjoying your time in the UK? What do you like most?

Yes. I like men in kilts the best. They’re very sexy to me! And, yes, I’ve heard the jokes about it!

Has anything surprised you - good or bad?

Fried pizzas and fried haggis are something you can't find in Japan.

How will learning English change your life?

I am not sure yet but I can speak Russian, Japanese and Arabic and English will help me speak to more people. I got interested in it when I lived in Egypt for a year, and found it easier to learn English than Arabic. I hope to work in the travel business later but I am not really sure yet.

Would you recommend learning English in the UK to your friends?

Yes. My course will finish soon but I am intending to come back with a new visa and take exams in December.
