Monthly update from Louise

Hello everyone, it feels like winter has arrived in the UK! We even saw a few snowflakes today in London. The hats and scarves are out, and everyone is making social plans to brighten up the darker evenings.

We're expecting a cold winter this year, but spirits are high in December, so I hope your students wrap up warm and enjoy the festive lights!

Here are my top 5 UK winter treats for December:

  • Christmas craft markets: all over the UK there are markets where local artisans sell Christmas presents (or souvenirs). Warm up with a mince pie or some mulled wine, fudge, artisan chocolates, craft beer, the list goes on….

  • Igloos around London: this year there are snow globes popping up around the capital, perfect for 'chilling out' in style (and taking photos for Instagram)

  • Festive lights: the Christmas lights have been switched on, so shopping centres and high streets across the country are sparkling brightly to welcome shoppers.

  • Winter walks: Not everyone likes to brave the cold, but a Sunday winter day is a wonderful time to visit a park or garden in a nice warm coat, followed by plenty of tea and cake!

  • An afternoon in a cosy pub: My favourite thing to do on a chilly winter day is find a soft leather sofa and an open fire, and enjoy a delicious Sunday lunch with friends. Here are some of the best Sunday roast's in the UK, by region.
