As 2017 draws to a close, I am delighted that the business environment for the ELT industry seems to be much healthier than this time last year.
Through our QUIC data collection we have seen growth in each quarter, corroborated anecdotally by those not yet in QUIC. Hard work, high quality and, yes, a weak pound have all played their part.
The new StudyWorld was launched at the QEII Centre to positive acclaim and excitement builds for 2018.
The various sectors of the wider international education industry are working more closely together than ever before, and have exerted real influence on the political perspective on the industry. Even the Home Secretary has followed many other government colleagues in urging that students be taken out of net migration figures. There is still work to be done on the major issue facing us, the future mobility of our 242,000 EU students so the year ahead will be a busy one for lobbying.
Impact of international students
Contributions for English UK's submission to the MAC enquiry on international students are coming in but very slowly. If you have not quite finished, please do take the time to complete the survey by Friday 22 December. This will help us enormously in our lobbying for the industry.
We have an action-packed year ahead, working on your behalf, and we all look forward to seeing you at our events, our roadshows and individual meetings
A very Happy Christmas to you all!
And all my very best wishes for a prosperous 2018.
We hope to see you at one of our events in 2018. And, as a little Christmas present, we're offering great early bird discounts on our Academic Conference in January and Marketing Conference in February.
The office will be closed from Friday 22 December 17:00 to Tuesday January 09:30.
