English UK membership update

At the English UK Board meeting this month, six centres were formally admitted into membership of the association:

Parkland International Language School ceased trading at the end of November 2013 and London Learning Centre ceased trading at the beginning of January. As they were English UK members, all students are supported by our Student Emergency Support Fund (SESF). This aims to minimise the effects of closure when students have paid fees for language courses at English UK member centres. It ensures students can complete their learning and also covers money lost on accommodation fees.

Cardiff Management and languages Academy, The British International School and Stratford College (previously Islington College London) had their accreditation withdrawn. As a centre must be accredited through the Accreditation UK scheme to be a member of English UK, their membership also ceased with immediate effect.

City and Islington College terminated their membership in December 2013 and are therefore no longer a member of English UK.

This means we currently have 474 accreditations in membership, comprising of 386 private sector centres and 88 from the state sector.

There have been a number of changes at existing member centres.

Burlington School of English merged with King Street College. They now trade under the Burlington School of English name.

Our newest Corporate members is The Stay Club - a high end, London student residence based in Camden Town and Willesden, with five more sites scheduled for completion over the next six years, offering students one place to live and one place to study.
