English UK Group Personal Pension Scheme: making auto-enrolment as painless as possible

For many English UK member centres, 2014 is the year where you finally have to start work on enrolling eligible staff onto a pension scheme.

English UK has teamed up with corporate member Endsleigh Financial to create a group personal pension scheme, which is both cost-effective and straightforward to implement. In fact, we've signed up for it ourselves, replacing the scheme which previously covered English UK staff.

"We've found it easy to implement and manage so far, and Endsleigh have been very helpful" says Laura Underwood, English UK's HR Officer. Several English UK member centres have also joined the scheme since its launch late last year.

The Pensions Act 2008 means all employers have a timetable under which they must begin to auto-enrol eligible staff members onto a pension scheme and make contributions on their behalf. Not all employees have to be auto-enrolled: there are minimum salary and age requirements.

Each company has its own "staging date" for auto-enrolment - if you are unsure when yours falls, check on the Pensions Regulator website. Companies with around 100+ employees will be staging in the first half of 2014, and companies with fewer than 100 employees will be staging from May 2014 onwards. Your exact staging date depends on your company's PAYE number. For centres staging in August 2014, an auto-enrolment compliant pension scheme for your employees will need to be finalised by the end of January 2014 at the latest.
