The Study UK Annual Conference 2013 took place on 16 December 2013, at the BIS Conference Centre in Westminster. The event was a great success, with Study UK members and other independent providers mingling with representatives from the Home Office, BIS, HEFCE, HESA, ISI, The British Council, The National Union of Students, alternative providers of higher education. In the keynote speech, David Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science, confirmed that alternative HE providers will be eligible alongside their publicly-funded counterparts to be freed from student number controls in 2015/16, provided that they meet 'high standards', receiving press coverage from the Times Higher Education, The PIE News, and Study Travel Magazine.
