As many member centres are aware, the new Accreditation UK criteria have now been published and will be used for inspections beginning in February 2014.
Of particular note is the new section and criteria entitled 'Care of Under 18s'. This section will only apply to centres taking students under 18 in any capacity, including those that allow 16 or 17 year olds to join adult classes (see Accreditation UK Handbook 2014 and 2015, pages 29 and 30). This will shortly be accompanied by a further guidance document providing definitions of the key terms referenced in the criteria and an FAQs section that will clarify (for example) who is in scope for DBS checks.
We have previously provided some examples of the draft guidance on the English UK forum. Once the complete guidance is published (early February), we will send this out to all members.
In the meantime, if you have any further questions about any aspect of the new Accreditation UK handbook, please email Huan Japes, Deputy Chief Executive - Professional Services.
