As the Partner Agency Scheme grows, we thought you'd like to find out a little more about our recognised partner agencies.
In this issue of the English UK Newsflash, our guest is Torsten Pankok. Torsten is director of TravelWorks in Müenster, Germany, (previously known as Carpe Diem Sprachreisen) which has been organising language courses for adults and juniors, as well as work and travel, volunteering, internships and au pairing since 1991.
How did you start as an agent?
I've been 20 years in the business now. A friend of mine started the business, originally selling Spanish courses, and asked me to join. We had a whole bunch of products: we started with Spanish courses then expanded because Spanish is a niche market. We started doing mainly English and Italian, ended up with four different languages and decided to have four categories.
Sounds complicated. What happened then?
We were called Carpe Diem Sprachreisen. The best decision we made was to start with our own brand, called TravelWorks, in 2001. We do work and travel programmes, internship programmes, built up packages, placements with organisations in Australia, and so on. It was booming, we built up the company, got high school programmes as well and got a whole bunch of products.
What do you like best about being an agent?
The best thing is the people you meet from all over the world: they're friendly, you can have a lot of fun. It's a great business to be in.
What made you want to join the Partner Agency Scheme?
The Partner agency scheme gives a little bit of quality. We are a quality education business, and it gives us the possibility to stress quality issues. We want to distinguish ourselves as quality agents, not just the cheapest process in the market.
We try our best to inform clients about it and while English UK is not well known in Germany we think it is good to use it in our publicity and on our customer website.
Please use the partner agency directory on our website to find out more about all English UK Partner Agencies.
