We have a wonderful new school building, which is located in the centre of Torquay, with extensive views of the harbour and open sea. The beaches, cafes, fast food restaurants and sports facilities are on our doorstep. The new building means we not only have many more classrooms (15 in total) but more facilities to offer students, including a garden terrace, a student social suite with games rooms and a library. There is also a large 3D home theatre system for movies. Most of the classrooms have open sea views -you will definitely be impressed! Apart from adult general English courses, we offer school group courses (ministay), 50+ courses and a junior/teenager summer course.
Brief interview with James Nicholls, Principal of Riviera English School
Q. What is the philosophy behind your school?
A. High quality courses which are excellent value for money - also a constant drive to improve our provision.
Q. What makes your school different?
A. We are the only language school to own an ocean sailing yacht, so we can offer our students a range of different sailing possibilities after English classes. Our location is fantastic - in the centre of England's most beautiful seaside resort. Torquay is a great location even in the winter, when it is warmer than other parts of the country. Our small size also means you will get the kind of personal attention that you just couldn't find at larger schools.
Q. Where do the majority of your students come from?
A. No nationality is dominant in the school - We had students from over 30 different countries last year.
Q. How can a student be sure that your school is a good school?
A. We are accredited by the British Council, who inspect us to make sure that standards are high. If you would like to speak to one of our existing partners for their opinions, we are confident they would give us a glowing reference!
Q. What would your advice be to a student looking for a language school?
A. Look at what we can offer first. Don't think you must go to London as a first choice - look at the possibilities - there is life outside the capital! Torquay is easy to get to, there is a direct coach from Heathrow Airport. Bristol and Exeter airports are a short transfer away.
