The Tesol Centre at Sheffield Hallam University is in the academic department of the Institute of Education, which sits in the college of Social Sciences and Arts. One of the Centre's aims is to prepare international students to enter mainstream departments by helping them to understand the academic conventions of UK HE institutions, acquire appropriate study skills and meet the English language admissions requirements. A second focus of the Centre is to provide international students with opportunities to continue to develop their English language throughout their courses by offering free English language classes and by providing a language advisory service to assist them with their assignments.
