Save on photocopy and film licences

English UK member centres can save money by joining our schemes for payment of Copyright Licensing Agency and Motion Picture License Company fees. Our bulk payment schemes enable members to have a large discount on photocopying licences (required if you photocopy copyrighted material) and 16% on film licences (required if you show films intended for home use).

For more details or to buy either licence, contact the Membership team.

Copyright Licensing Agency licences

Under this scheme the licence fee is based on student weeks, and includes a large discount for member centres. Eligible member centres can join the scheme any time during the year and will be charged at the discounted rate on pro rata basis.

Please remember to comply with the stated terms of the licence, including the need to refer to the Excluded Categories and Works as listed and periodically updated on the CLA's website.

Under copyright law, all photocopies of copyright materials incur a charge to compensate the authors. Organisations such as language centres must  either have a current Copyright Licensing Agency licence or ensure that no material protected by copyright is photocopied. In addition, the Accreditation UK scheme requires providers to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

Motion Picture License Company licences

Centres which show copyright films bought for home use to a wider audience, such as a group of students at a social programme film night, must have this licence. It covers formats including DVD, Blu-ray, internet streaming and videocassette.

English UK has arranged a bulk licence for payment of Motion Picture License Company (MPLC) fees, which includes a discount in recognition of our administrative, coordinating and negotiating role.

For 2020, English UK members pay £210.43 + VAT per accredited centre, a saving of almost 20% on the full fee. You can join at any time during the year.

  • English UK members open for less than 6 months during the year benefit from a Seasonal Operators Licence for £116.46 + VAT per year.
  • English UK members may also join the licence on a pro rata basis at any time during the year. Please note that all members currently licensed directly with MPLC will be referred to English UK at the time of their renewal.

The licence covers the public performance of pre-recorded DVD/Blu-ray media or downloads distributed by MPLC affiliated producers.

For further information about the members' MPLC licence visit or contact the Membership team.
