English UK member, St George International, launches a series of Teacher Development Workshops for 2011
6 April 2011

St George International (SGI) has announced the launch of a series of Teacher Development Workshops for 2011 which will be accessible to teachers from all English UK member centres. There will be 8 workshops this year, with 4 planned for the Spring-Summer, and 4 in the Autumn-Winter.

SGI, based in Central London, has been running teacher training courses (Trinity Cert TESOL and Diploma) since 1993, and is proud of their internal teacher development programme which has been awarded points of excellence at the last two British Council inspections.

The "SGI CPD Club" is the natural progression of this, and will be open to English Language Teachers in London who would like to develop new skills and share ideas on best practices and techniques for the classroom.

The aim is to have workshops with a maximum of 15 participants which will promote a participative and personalised atmosphere.  Sessions will be led by SGI teachers and trainers, and will be informal, interactive and – hopefully - insightful.

Josh Round, the Director of Studies at SGI, says: 'With the current buzz of new developments in CPD across the industry, I'm really excited about running these open workshops which will provide our teachers and former trainees with the opportunity to maintain a training connection, as well as to meet other practitioners in London with whom they can share best practice and collaborate. The workshops deliberately coincide with rather than clash with the teacher development seminars at St Giles & Oxford House – in other words, the more open events in London, the merrier!!'

With the emphasis on practical lesson ideas and activities to take away and try out, SGI workshops will help teachers become more reflective: better at understanding learner needs, how to plan and teach a variety of lesson types and more aware of how ICT resources can be used effectively in classroom teaching.

The obligatory refreshments will of course be provided!  Please see the programme for details and how to book.   SGI recommends booking early as the workshop places are already filling up.
