English UK's new conference: for everyone involved in ELT teaching and learning
30 November 2017

Best practice, current issues, innovative teaching methods and much more will be at the heart of English UK's two-day Academic Conference in January. The unmissable London event will provide valuable updates, useful networking and continuing professional development for all academic managers and teachers working in ELT.

Developed from the hugely successful Teachers and Management conferences, the new event has one day devoted to classroom practice and one to academic management. Attendees are welcome to book for one day or two on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 January.

We're really excited about the Academic Conference, which we think provides the best of all worlds for centres keen to keep innovating and to stay on top of new developments, but who face the pressure of time and resources, said Huan Japes, English UK's membership director.

We found our Teachers' Conference was also popular with academic directors, who value the chance to update themselves with the latest thinking on ELT and network with colleagues, and we believe many will jump at the chance to attend the two days. In the past, we've known centres to send large groups of teachers with academic directors as part of their CPD programme, and we believe this will be even more useful from that point of view.

Major speakers confirmed so far are language expert Professor David Crystal, who will discuss English accents past, present and future and also run an elective session on language and the internet, plus Oxford University's Dr Catherine Walter, who will examine the theory and practice around grammar teaching, and practical ways of using research in the classroom on Saturday.

Full details for the conference, at Prospero House in London's Borough High Street, will be announced during the next few weeks, but we can confirm the return of the Action Research awards at the teacher-focused day on Saturday 20 January.
