Fundraising for the Eddie Byers Fund

Our plans to raise money for the Eddie Buyer Fund through the 2020 Isle of Wight Challenge have been postponed. We are working to find a suitable date for our next fundraising event.

Isle of Wight Challenge to change lives through English language learning

Join English UK and adventurous ELT industry friends to walk (or run!) the Isle of Wight's spectacular coastal path to raise funds for the Eddie Byers Fund.

  • Isle of Wight Challenge
  • Saturday 2 - Sunday 3 May 2020

There are options for all levels of experience from the 26km quarter challenge through to the full 106km challenge over two days. English UK will have a team with a mixture of half- and full-island challengers and we hope to be joined by many more industry.

We will hike along the spectacular southern cliffs, past the iconic Needles and up to historic Cowes where half-island challengers will stop. The next morning full-island challengers will continue on to historic Ventnor and back to Chale. The event is organised by Action Challenge.

Registration includes full support from medics and marshals throughout, food and refreshments, shuttle buses to the nearest station as well as fizz and a medal at the end! Action Challenge also offers luggage transfer and camping services at an additional cost.

Registration must be made at least six weeks before the start of the challenge. We encourage you to register as soon as possible to give yourself plenty of time for fundraising and training.

Join as an individual

That's great! We welcome everyone who wants to walk in support of the Eddie Byers Fund. Commit to raising a minimum of £299 per person for the Eddie Byers Fund or £199 for the half challenge and pay only half the registration fee for the full challenge.

Join as a team

English UK subgroups, school chains, corporate members, industry press and others are invited to form teams and take on the Isle of Wight challenge together. Joining as a team is a great team building event, will help keep you motivated during the challenge and support an impactful industry cause at the same time.

English UK London team

"It would be amazing if we could have a representative (or two!) from as many of our English UK London members as possible to tackle the Isle of Wight Challenge together - whether it's the full or half (or quarter) island walk... or jog/run if you are particularly hardcore! We all know the fantastic work that the Eddie Byers Fund does and now we have an opportunity to raise money for this wonderful cause." - Charlie Pote of St Giles London Central
