Spring tide risk for seaside centres
26 March 2015

In light of a recent incident in Bournemouth,in which four teenagers were saved from water up to their chests after a sudden spring tide, we would like to bring beach safety to the attention of all English UK members based near the sea or visiting the seaside.

The exceptionally high and low spring tides (meaning tides that 'spring up' rather than necessarily occurring in spring) are set to occur periodically between now and September as the moon orbits closer than usual to the earth; the next risky period is from 19 - 22 April.

Please ensure that both your staff and students are aware of the tide and risks associated with sudden tides or being cut-off by incoming waters.

Further information can be found on the Good Beach Guide and BBC tide timetables.
