What's the difference between coaching and mentoring? When should I use coaching and how do I go about setting up a coaching programme? What's my role and how do we get results?
Dawn Harry, a director of studies at Kaplan International in Oxford, will help us answer these questions in her plenary session at the English UK Management Conference next month.
Ideal for line managers, teacher trainers or developers, Dawn's session 'Steps to Effective Coaching' will consider coaching models, address pitfalls and invite the audience to role play new techniques that they can implement back in the office on Monday.
"We will look at examples of both coaching and mentoring scenarios and use this to arrive at a closer definition of each," she explains. Then, the session will focus on the role of an effective coach, including goal-setting, informing rather than advising, effective listening, and developmental rather than evaluative feedback.
Dawn has an extensive background in EFL. She holds the DELTA and MA TESOL, with a focus on teacher development, and has both taught and delivered teacher training at language learning institutions, schools and at university level around the world.
