Student Interview: Thamir Alsubaiey
22 July 2015

Thamir Alsubaiey is 33 years old and comes from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. He is studying General English at English UK member Peartree Languages in Cardiff, Wales.

What brought you to study English in Wales?

I thought it would be a better journey to come to the UK than to go to America. And my friend from Iraq told me about Cardiff and Peartree Languages.

Why did you want to improve your English?

I have been a teacher for five years and I am now a university lecturer in special education. I would like to do a PhD in the future and need better English for that.

Do you like being in the UK?

Yes, I am very happy in Cardiff. There are special people here and I am very happy. I like that people help you even if they have only just met you.

The staff at Peartree are very friendly too. When I started studying here I didn't have words, except yes, no and OK. Now I think I might try to study my PhD at Cardiff University.

Would you recommend studying English in the UK to your friends?

Yes, I already have! My friend is coming to Peartree to study soon.
