Interested in studying something different? One option is a leadership course for young adults.

Students and agents are often looking for something a bit different and English UK members are working hard to diversify what they offer.

One of the latest is a Leadership Course run by St Clare's in Oxford for over-18s. Sales co-ordinator Kevin Romao says: "We've had a lot of interests and uptake, and we'll be doing more of these courses next year. We'd had quite a few requests to do something different."

The course is run in English, and the idea is to get students to use their language skills in context rather than direct teaching of grammar. Activities involve projects, negotiations, critical thinking as well as guest speakers lined up from businesses in Oxford.

"The students will come in and experience different ways of leading people, and different methods of sales and management," says Kevin, adding: "The target group is people looking to study international business at university, up to people in their late 20s who are already working in business and require more skills. Quite a few countries teach courses like English and science in English now so this is an extra step to help them use those skills. We're quite excited about it."

Kevin says that some students could come and do general English at St Clare's for a fortnight to build their confidence and make sure they were at the intermediate level required before doing the leadership course, and that the college is also starting a three-week English and Academic Subject summer course for 15-17 years olds, with one week each devoted to Shakespeare, science, and humanities.
