Chinese group leaders join our pre-departure briefing on WeChat
20 May 2019

Over 1,100 group leaders from China have participated in English UK's second pre-departure briefing on WeChat. The training session, which focused on protecting young learners, was supported and promoted by British Council China via their dedicated agent-facing WeChat account.

The briefing took place live on Thursday 16 May and recordings are still available on WeChat. Members are welcome to share the link with Chinese partners.

The presentation was delivered by safeguarding consultant Kevin O'Donnell, with bilingual slides and a Q&A. Topics included the safeguarding roles of schools and group leaders, UK etiquette, risk assessment, social media use and medicine control.

Feedback from participants has been very positive. Group leaders said "thanks for answering these questions we urgently need to know" and described the session as "very helpful and professional".

This is the second WeChat webinar that English UK has delivered with British Council China, following a popular first session in May 2018. WeChat, known as Weixin in China, has reached a billion monthly users and is widely used for b2b as well as personal communication. The British Council has an education agent WeChat account dedicated to communicating with agents and currently has more than 9,000 followers, who are keen to learn through the platform.
