English UK responds to the first update to the government's traffic light list for international travel

We are hugely disappointed that the government's first review of its traffic-light system not only sees no new countries added to its green list but also contains no indication of when and how countries might be moved to green in the future.

This is in contrast to today's announcement from the Irish government that arrivals from the EU and elsewhere with a vaccine certificate or a negative Covid-19 test will be welcome to enter Ireland without quarantining on arrival from 19 July.

Not only does the UK ELT industry get no clear roadmap to recovery, but we also get no sector-specific support despite raising our situation with the government time and again. The UK government needs to wake up: give us the path to recovery and the support we need to get there or watch the industry disappear.

We continue to call on the government to provide targeted business support for UK ELT and other industries that rely on inbound tourism. This is needed now more than ever.
