A warm welcome to more new members

We are delighted to welcome more new English language member centres to our association: English Path, Bournemouth City College and Kilgraston Summer School. We look forward to meeting their teams in person at one of our events very soon.

Huan Japes, our membership director, said: "It's great to see language centres and colleges applying to join us. We are definitely stronger as an association than as individuals, and it's fantastic that organisations that have not previously been in membership can see the benefits of our expert support, advice and events. The membership team and I feel like we know our new members well already and we're hoping they'll get chances to meet the wider membership soon, either at one of our events or through regional or national subgroups."

Here are a few facts about our latest recruits:

English Path

Location: Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, London, Eastbourne

Student age: adults 18+ and also young learners 8-17 years

English Path is a year-round school with UK centres in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and two in London. It also has overseas centres in Dubai and Malta. The organisation prides itself on offering "quality courses in unbeatable university-style campuses".

Language courses include general English, IELTS and Cambridge exam preparation, and English for business or finance. It also offers international foundation year programmes with its sister company GBS, the largest higher education college provider in the UK. Year-round young learner programmes are available for 8-17-year olds at English Path's West London centre, as well as seasonal camps in London, Eastbourne and Malta. English Path's mission to change lives through education includes partnerships with two charities that support students with English learning: RefuAid and Soul Bilíngue.

Bournemouth City College

Location: Bournemouth, Dorset, England

Student age: Adults 18+

Bournemouth City College teaches General English, IELTS and Cambridge Exam preparation, Cambridge B2 and C1 examinations, Cambridge Business English and ESOL. Regular homework and self-study activities are provided to promote learner autonomy and help students to consolidate the things they have covered in class.

The college also offers general and exam courses online, which include guided self-study time as well as pair work and group work within lessons. The college says studying in Bournemouth isn't just about grammar but an academic, cultural and personal experience, and that it teaches English for communication in the real world. "Our philosophy is to ensure that, whether you come to Bournemouth City College for one week or twelve weeks, you will leave the school with a sense of achievement." Students are encouraged not only to use their language in the classroom but also to go out and practise at the beach, the town centre, or a local cultural or historical site.

Kilgraston Summer School

Location: Bridge of Earn, Perthshire, Scotland

Student age: Young learners 8 - 17 years

Kilgraston Summer School, in the Scottish countryside, has provided students with an immersive "boutique" English language experience since 2013. The summer school is run by Kilgraston School, an independent boarding and day school.

It offers English language lessons to students aged 8 - 17 for up to 4 weeks each summer, with multi-activities in the afternoons, excursions and a focus on Scottish culture. Students enjoy Scottish-themed evening events, such as having a ceilidh or learning Scottish country dancing. Excursions are often to historic or cultural venues, with lessons to prepare beforehand. The school is also popular with students keen on horse riding as it is the only one in Scotland with an onsite equestrian centre. New for 2022 is a youth leadership programme for teenagers with high levels of English.

We are delighted to welcome new members for the second month in a row: Cotswold International Language School, Brooke House College and Cardiff English Language Academy joined us in September.

Membership is open to all British Council accredited UK English language centre.
