Sixty students continue studies after closure of MC Academy
We are grateful to member and accredited centres which offered places to students displaced by the closure of MC Academy in Manchester and Liverpool last month.
Swift action to support displaced students
Our membership team worked tirelessly to place the students quickly so that they could continue their studies without a break as part of our Student Emergency Support scheme.
Around sixty students, mostly adults and older teens, were affected by the sudden closure and staff were made redundant. The business has now gone into administration, and all enquiries should go to the administrators Opus.
A message from MC Academy
Amal Schutt, Executive Director of MC Academy, said:
"It is with deep regret that we announce MC Academy has made the difficult decision to wind down its operations and will cease to trade. We are working with English UK, who will find suitable alternative courses and accommodation for our students. Regrettably, the closure of the schools will also mean that staff members will face redundancy.
Challenges behind the closure and the legacy of MC Academy
"This is a deeply sad outcome - MC Academy was founded over 20 years ago and was one of the first English Language Teaching schools in Manchester. The school used to trade as Manchester Central School of English, MCSE, until 2019 when talks started around expansions into Liverpool.
"The company has faced significant cashflow challenges and has been unable to recover financially from the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite extensive efforts to cut costs, increased visa rejections, fierce competition and raising employer costs influenced the difficult decision to close. MC Academy is a family-run business, and remains committed to supporting our students and staff through this transition. We are thankful for everyone who supported us over the years."
Enquiries should be sent to the administrators Opus via mcacademy@opusllp.com
