Simon Freeman, Chair of English UK South

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our industry colleague and friend, Simon Freeman M.A, DELTA. Simon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday 3 December. He fought a short battle with pancreatic cancer following a diagnosis in mid-November.

Simon's long career in ELT started in 1977 when he taught a summer course at Bell School in Bath and reportedly came out saying, 'How do I qualify for this?'.

Simon went on be deputy chief executive of Arels, one of English UK's predecessor associations; principal of Westbourne Academy in Bournemouth; and most recently chair of English UK South since the group's formation in the summer of 2018.

Added on 21 December:
Simon's funeral was held on Monday 13 December in the stunning Christchurch Priory Church.
