Shakespeare Lives in 2016 - impact of UK ELT's destination UK campaign in China

Shakespeare Lives is an unprecedented programme of events and activities running throughout this year, exploring Shakespeare as a living writer who still speaks for all people and nations.

As part of this initiative, we have been working with the British Council China to run 'Shakespeare Lives:Play your Shakespeare'. This digital mass participation project aims to encourage people to watch, create and share content on major Chinese social media channels.

Students and staff from 36 accredited English languages centres were filmed in a professional recording studio in London, and on location throughout the UK, reading extracts from Shakespeare's plays.  The promotion of the three professionally produced films in April resulted in over 358,000 video views in China.

More Shakespeare Lives news...

We're excited to partner with the British Council and the GREAT campaign to bring Shakespeare Lives to English UK's flagship B2B networking event, StudyWorld London. A plenary seminar and dedicated exhibition area will encourage our international audience to engage.  The seminar focusses on the Bard's global impact and how it can be harnessed to support the UK's international influence; and the exhibition area will give our delegates the chance to learn, at their own pace, more about this global campaign.

English UK's second major student-facing English Language teaching (ELT) campaign 'Shakespeare Lives: As you Like it' will run in Latin American markets from this autumn.

You can join in the celebration of Shakespeare's 400th anniversary by tweeting using #ShakespeareLives; or participate in one of the many global events and activities happening throughout 2016.
