Course of the month: English plus Art

Last month we received an enquiry from an agent looking for English plus Art courses in the UK.

Sophie Kung from Maiqi Study Tour, China, has noticed an increase in student interest in creative English courses: "Students seek to increase their knowledge or experience. Some of them are junior students who are not interested in regular summer programmes, others are 25+ who wish to do something besides English classes".

Using the English UK course finder, we found six exciting creative English plus options provided by English UK member centres:

FOR YOUNG LEARNERS:

Bucksmore Education's ARTS EXPERIENCE course at is an English Plus course for 10-13 year old creative students. Students study and live at King Edward's School in Surrey, an hour from London. They study 15 hours of English language each week, supplemented by 7.5 hours of arts workshops in art, dance or music.

Mackenzie School of English, run a two-week ART & STREET THEATRE course for 12-17 year olds at their school in Edinburgh. Along with general English topics, the language lessons focus on art and theatre, and the programme includes practical art and theatre workshops with local artists and a final exhibition and public theatre performance. Topics include sculpture, photography, curating, drama and music, scriptwriting and set design.

FOR ADULTS 16 YEARS+

Loxdale English Centre, offer an ENGLISH AND ART Course in the creative hub of Brighton. Their courses are more specialised, as students choose between English plus Art, Photography or Screen Printing. Classes combinate General English with two afternoons focusing on the chosen additional subject, where students can document their experiences through photos, paintings or prints.

University of the Arts London is renowned for its creative and design courses. Their English Plus Art and Design caters to create English learners who are keen to be in a creative higher education setting in central London. Students study between four and 24 weeks of General or Academic English with practical art and design lessons across a range of subjects at Chelsea College of Arts. The course is suitable for students who want to prepare a portfolio, or are just want to create for enjoyment. English plus City Photography or Filmmaking are also available.

Kings Education offer English Plus Art and Design courses in either Oxford or London. The courses can support students who need to improve their English for study or employment while preparing a portfolio of artwork, and offer portfolio advice and expertise to prepare effectively for art courses or job applications. Students of any art experience can attend, from complete beginner to degree level art students. The art studios are specially equipped to teach painting, drawing and modelling, and design software is available for use.

Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne offers English plus Art & Design to students who want to improve their General English, complimented by 3 hours per week of Art and Design courses. Student study on the same campus as British students, giving them an authentic British study experience.
