Raising money for the Eddie Byers Fund with the English UK pub quiz
27 March 2019

We're not climbing any mountains this time, but instead we are organising a fun and relaxed pub quiz on the evening of the English UK Annual Conference and are hoping for lots of support and donations.

There are 60 places available, with snacks and your first drink included (more food and drink can be purchased at the venue). Entry is a minimum donation of £5 per person on the door and 100% of this will go towards the Eddie Byers Fund.

Eddie, our former CEO, was passionate about the transformative power of education and enjoyed a good get together. After his passing, the Eddie Byers Fund was created to transform lives through learning.

In its first two years, the Eddie Byers Fund has helped refugees and asylum seekers gain employment, enter education and access essential services and feel a part of their communities in the UK. It has also funded teacher training in Tanzania to help young pupils attend high school, which is taught in English, and English teaching in Palestine.

The fund is entirely created by donations. We welcome donations at any time but also take on fundraising challenges such as the national and Yorkshire three peak hiking challenges.

The quiz will take place on Thursday 23 May at the Draft House Pub, 206-208 Tower Bridge Road, London, SE1 2UP - a short walk away from the Annual Conference and AGM venue.

Can you support the quiz?

Running the quiz isn't free - costs include the pub deposit, quizmaster, table snacks, first drink free, etc. To help cover the costs of running the quiz we are looking for sponsors.

As a thank you, you will receive:

  • Acknowledgement of support and logo on all pub quiz promotional emails, materials and social media
  • Logo on table numbers
  • One or two pub quiz entrants (depending on level of support)
  • Banner stand in the pub quiz room
  • One-minute welcome speech at the start of the quiz.

We hope you will support our latest fundraising venture. Please contact English UK if you would like to get involved.
