Police registration requirement dropped for international students

From Thursday 4 August 2022, the requirement for certain foreign nationals to register with the police has been suspended with immediate effect.

This means that any students who have arrived in the UK since Friday 5 August 2022, and who were previously required register with the police, no longer need to do so. Students being issued a visa with a note on the vignette to register with the police can ignore this requirement.

The data collected at the police registration is data that is already captured at the time of the visa application.

The Home Office has not made an official announcement and the Immigration Rules have not been amended. Although these requirements are currently still included in the Immigration Rules, they are no longer being observed in practice, as confirmed on GOV.UK from 4 August 2022.
