EC English: latest update and student support information
Classes at EC English schools in the UK are continuing today, following the suspension of new student arrivals over the weekend. We understand that the suspension remains in place across EC English schools worldwide.
We recognise that this is an anxious and uncertain time for students, staff, families, agents and partners connected with EC English, as well as the wider English UK community.
English UK is monitoring developments closely and remains in regular contact with EC English's management team. No closure has been publicly confirmed. However, we are we are preparing for a range of possible scenarios so that, if a closure is confirmed, we can begin coordinating support for eligible students immediately.
Student emergency support
In those circumstances, English UK would coordinate the response through the Student Emergency Support scheme. The scheme is designed to reduce disruption following the unexpected closure of an accredited English language centre. It can help eligible students continue their studies at another accredited centre without incurring additional course fees. It may also provide limited emergency accommodation support where needed.
Any support and student placements would be coordinated centrally by English UK. This would enable us to assess individual students' circumstances, build a clear picture of available capacity, liaise with agents and match students with appropriate accredited centres in a fair and orderly way.
Support from English UK member centres
We are grateful to the English UK member centres that have already offered to help, and to all those preparing to support and accommodate students should this become necessary. This willingness to work together reflects the strength and care of the English UK community.
If a closure is confirmed, English UK will invite member centres that are able to offer course places or other practical support to complete an availability form. This information will help us coordinate support effectively and prepare to act quickly where assistance is required.
Further information
We will share further information as soon as it becomes available, including clear guidance for current students, agents and member centres. More information about the support that may be available can be found on our Student Emergency Support page.
