The English UK Marketing Conference, supported by Cambridge ESOL, is organized by the English Language Promotions Group (the British Council, English UK, VisitBritain and UK Trade and Investment).  It is the ideal event for professionals involved in marketing ELT programmes to international students, allowing them to expand their expertise and knowledge in a number of key areas.

There will be three plenary sessions at this event:

  • In his opening address, 'No marketing budget? No problem' Richard Richardson will focus on the concept of marketing judo. In judo, you can use the weight of your opponent to your advantage, moving quickly and taking them by surprise. That's what Richard did to transform Harry Ramsden's from a single fish-and-chip shop in Yorkshire to an international chain; and to increase the value of the La Tasca brand by five times in five years. His story is inspirational and rests on seven key moves that will help you to wrestle any marketing challenge to the ground.
  • Alex Reeve, the Vice President of Marketing for Pearson ELT, will deliver a digital-themed marketing session with plenty of opportunities for audience participation via twitter and other social media. Alex was previously the marketing and Managing Director for Elsevier UK and Northern Europe and the Director of Microsoft's Windows Phone Business. He believes in growing and transforming businesses in the content and technology industries through deep engagement with customers and partners, with a focus on industries undergoing waves of innovation and change: smartphones and devices, software, telecoms, games and content.
  • For the closing plenary, Adrian Liley's talk is entitled 'Anti-Marketing: How to Get Business Doing it all the Wrong Way'. There are times that you put a lot of time, effort and energy into getting business from an agent and … get nothing.  Other times, you shoot off a cursory email or you go to a meeting late, give a bored presentation and wander off after an hour and… business starts rolling in.  Why?  This session explores the psyche of the agent and how to get under his or her skin. He will also look at the various reasons why doing the wrong thing can be a positive force especially in such rigid cultures as China, Japan and the Middle East. Adrian has marketed and sold English courses in over 70 countries over the last 25 years for a variety of organizations. He is now Head of Sales at British Study Centres.

In addition, the elective sessions will focus largely on intelligence from key markets, including China, Japan, Russia, North Africa and the Middle East as well as a choice of alternative sessions. A full programme will be available in early December.
