English UK publishes antiracism plan

Today we published our wide-ranging antiracism plan to promote a fairer, more inclusive and equitable UK ELT sector.

The events of 2020 shone a light on the inequity, injustice, discrimination and racism prevalent in our world. With this in mind, and in the context of a global pandemic that gives us the opportunity to improve the UK ELT sector as we rebuild, we have published an antiracism plan.

The first step in this plan is an inclusion and diversity survey, which has been sent to English UK members, staff, trustees, trainers and advisors.

Promoting a fairer, more inclusive and equitable UK ELT sector

On publishing Becoming antiracist: promoting a fairer, more inclusive and equitable UK ELT sector, our chief executive Jodie Gray wrote:

"As a mixed-race woman who started my ELT career as an accommodation officer for a summer school in my university holidays 20 years ago, I am proud of our industry, which has quite literally shown me the world.

We now have the chance to improve English UK and the UK ELT sector as we rebuild. Together we can create a better, fairer, more inclusive industry – and society – for us all.

There is no doubt that transformation will be demanding. Yet the disruption we have all experienced during the Covid-19 crisis has shown us that change is both necessary and achievable."
