UK ELT sector rallies to support students in the UK after EC English closure
English UK has secured replacement course offers for 317 of the 328 students affected by the closure of EC English's four UK schools, thanks to support from member centres across the country.
Supporting affected students
Following confirmation of the closure on Monday 14 September, English UK has led a sector-wide effort to help affected students continue their studies with as little disruption as possible.
Members of the English UK team, supported by the Board of Trustees, visited all four UK EC schools and have since focused on securing replacement course offers for the 328 affected students.
As of 17:00 on Friday 18 September, 317 students had received a replacement course offer, with work continuing to place the remaining 11 students and confirm provisional allocations.
A sector-wide response
The response has been made possible by support from across the English UK membership community. Sixty-eight member centres offered places at very short notice, giving students access to replacement study options across the UK. Accommodation providers also worked flexibly to support students while new arrangements were put in place.
English UK would like to thank all member centres, corporate members and partner organisations that offered support, advice or practical assistance.
Work continues
Alongside supporting affected students, English UK is responding to enquiries about future bookings and the implications of the closure for students, agents and partners.
The immediate priority remains supporting students currently in the UK and completing the remaining placements. We will continue to keep members and other stakeholders informed as work progresses.
